The first consideration is that it is cost efficient, almost 4 x less than SIPS panels cost to manufacture.
Constructing with timber has great insulation properties although not as good as SIPS.
Timber is fast to erect, eco friendly and bought by us from fsc and pefc ethical sources.
Timber is also widely recycled which means any waste products can be used in other projects.
Timber has a surprisingly high strength to weight ratio. Despite it being quite light, it is still very strong.
Timber also has a very good tensile strength, which is a materials ability to bend without breaking.
Timber is extremely easy to store and move, and can be bought in many sizes. This means timber built structures can be built on sites with difficult access.
All our timber is tanalised which means it is pressure treated. That extends the life of timber, increase durability and resistance from being affected by insects or fungus.
The treatment is Tanalith E. This is a water based wood preservative that contains copper and proven organic biocides.
Structural insulated panels (SIPs) are a high performance building system for residential and commercial construction.
The panels consist of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings, typically oriented strand board (OSB).
The high strength to weight ratio of SIP Panels allows large sections of your building to be fitted at once, speeding up the time required on site for erection.
SIP insulation exceeds the current Building Regulation requirements on its own.
The foam insulation has an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) rating of zero and has a low Global Warming Potential (GWP).
Limited Cold Bridging due to the continuity of the rigid insulation within the system provides greatly enhanced thermal reliability.
SIPS garden rooms are more expensive than timber frame rooms.
Good access to the building site needed.
